Cloud Hosting Pioneer Infinitely Virtual to Sponsor Competition f or Film Students at Woodbury University

‘Infinitely Video’ Contest Asks Film Club Members to Imagine Day in the Life of a 22nd Century Office Worker

LOS ANGELES (March 24, 2014) – The story is as old as celluloid: aspiring filmmaker aims for Hollywood with his or her head in the clouds.

For a select group of film students at Woodbury University (www.woodbury.edu), however, the cloud in question has more to do with technology than weather. Cloud hosting pioneer Infinitely Virtual (www.infinitelyvirtual.com) today announced that it has teamed with Woodbury on “Infinitely Video,” a novel competition that asks budding auteurs to fast forward to the next century and, while there, portray a typical day at the office.

The competition – orbiting around the theme, “A day in the life of a 22nd Century office worker” — kicks off on April 1 and concludes on April 30. Participating students will submit original work of no more than two minutes in duration. A three-member panel of judges — which includes Hayma “Screech” Washington, a seven-time Emmy-winning producer of NBC’s “The Amazing Race” — will review student entries and select what they deem to be the most creative submission.

The winning entry will be posted to YouTube, the websites and Facebook pages of the respective organizations, and the video portals Vimeo and Daily Motion. Infinitely Virtual will award the winning student with a $500 cash prize and will make an in-kind contribution valued at $500 to the Woodbury University Film Club.

“Online video is a blank canvas for creativity, and we’re hoping that this competition will inspire students to stretch their imaginations and test their skills in the medium,” said Adam Stern, CEO, Infinitely Virtual. “Rather than having students produce an ad or a promotional spot, we’re looking for a short that combines a unique vision with compelling story-telling.”

“The ‘Infinitely Video’ competition dovetails nicely with several core learning outcomes in our Film Department,” said David Collins, Department Chair. “We want our students to develop keen aesthetic principles, understand the use of time as an expressive design consideration in film, and produce work from concept to finished product. In all these areas, the competition presents challenges – and the opportunity to have a little fun.”

The Woodbury University Film Club was established in 2013 and provides an environment where students can foster their creativity, vision and strength through the art of filmmaking. The Film Club works across disciplines and is growing to showcase its passion and skills. With access to all the filmmaking equipment in Woodbury’s Film Department, the Film Club enables film students to produce independent work without the strictures of the classroom.

Resident in the School of Media, Culture and Design, Woodbury’s Department of Filmmaking is committed to providing students with a film production and film business education that fills the needs of today’s motion picture industry, and to prepare them for tomorrow’s convergence of social media, Internet, television and cinema. The program’s aim is to inspire filmmakers to develop and create powerful stories, in both fiction and documentary, that will become part of the global discourse of cinema.
