Cloud Server Provider Offers Latest Iteration of vCloud Suite, Industry’s Leading Virtualization Environment
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (June 4, 2013) – Infinitely Virtual, a leading provider of Cloud Server computing services, today announced its implementation of VMware vSphere® 5.1, a comprehensive update of the world’s most widely deployed virtualization platform. The foundation of the VMware vCloud Suite, vSphere 5.1 includes more than 100 enhancements and new features aimed at delivering optimum performance across all applications.
Key advancements in VMware vSphere 5.1 include more powerful virtual machines (VMs), more innovations to help customers avoid unplanned downtime, and more robust networking capabilities. VMware vSphere 5.1 will support virtual machines with up to 64 virtual CPUs. To keep these VMs running round the clock, VMware has enhanced VMware vMotion® to enable live migration of VMs without the need for shared storage.
At the heart of the VMware vCloud Suite is a set of software-defined datacenter services that apply the virtualization principles of abstraction, pooling and automation to the domains of storage, networking, security and availability. VMware vCloud Director orchestrates the provisioning of these services to deliver complete virtual datacenters (VDCs) that can be ready for use in minutes.
VMware vCloud Director 5.1 includes major scalability enhancements, enabling it to support “elastic” VDCs that span multiple VMware vSphere clusters and up to 30,000 virtual machines. vCloud Director 5.1 has enhanced APIs and an extensibility framework that enables customers to connect a broad range of third-party infrastructure services.
“For small and midsize businesses migrating to the cloud, vSphere 5.1 ought to be cause for comfort,” said Adam Stern, CEO, Infinitely Virtual. “This timely and strategic update addresses critical client needs in the areas of storage, networking, security and availability. With the virtual model, stability and scalability are absolutely paramount. VMware’s newest offering delivers both, underscoring the increasingly strong case for cloud migration.”
At the completion of the VMware vSphere 5.1 upgrade cycle, Infinitely Virtual will add support for Windows 2012, Windows 8 and, for the first time, Mac OSX, enabling the Apple community to use Mac servers in a hosted environment.
In a significant breakthrough, VMware vCloud Networking and Security enables the dynamic creation of virtual networks and services that are completely decoupled from the physical network hardware. In addition, VMware vSphere 5.1 incorporates new VMware vSphere Data Protection™ for simplified, reliable VM back-up and recovery, VMware vSphere Replication for cost-effective disaster protection, and VMware vShield Endpoint™ for more efficient VM security. Among the other enhancements:
•VMware vSphere 5.1 includes key enhancements to the VMware vSphere Distributed Switch™, including the ability to support up to 500 networked hosts per distributed switch. With new Network Health Check, Configuration Backup and Restore, Roll-Back and Recovery capabilities, VMware vSphere 5.1 Distributed Switch simplifies deployment, ongoing management and troubleshooting of virtual networks.
•vCloud Networking and Security allows customers to create logical networks for each application or tenant, and it can isolate the network traffic between applications belonging to the same organization – regardless of physical network constraints or boundaries.
•VMware vCloud Networking and Security brings together the VXLAN protocol and VMware vShield Edge™ and application security services to provide a full set of software-defined networking capabilities, and a comprehensive solution lineup for virtualizing the network – from virtual switching to virtualized layer 4-7 services.
