Infinitely Virtual Rolls Out Next Phase of E.V.E. 3.0 Overhaul: Ambitious Cloud Infrastructure Revamp Now Extends to vCloud 9.7, Juniper’s SkyATP, New AMD EPYC Rome Servers

Cloud Hosting Pioneer Unveils Newest Suite of Major Enhancements For Next-Gen Applications

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 13, 2020)– Cloud hosting pioneer Infinitely Virtual today announced its latest round of infrastructure enhancements, all part of an ambitious, ongoing update of E.V.E. – the company’s proprietary Enterprise Virtualization Environment.

Known as E.V.E. 3.0, this newest series of upgrades includes deployments of VMware vSphere 6.5, vCloud Director 9.7, Juniper’s SkyATP, VMware’s NSX and, most notably, AMD EPYC Rome servers.  Among the details:

  • AMD EPYC Rome.  AMD’s second generation server processors, codenamed “Rome,” strategically target the data center with the industry’s first PCIe 4.0-capable x86 server processor.  Rome features up to 64 “Zen 2” cores (128 threads), increased instructions-per-cycle and leadership compute, I/O and memory bandwidth, delivering double the bandwidth per channel.  That speed is critical to unlocking the performance of PCIe attached devices like FPGAs, GPUs and flash storage. AMD Rome also offers double the compute performance per socket, and four times the floating point performance per socket compared to current AMD EPYC processors.
  • VMware vCloud Director 9.7.  VMware vCloud Director, the central Cloud Management and Orchestration platform within the VMware Cloud Provider Platform, enables the provisioning of software for Virtual Data Centers in a matter of minutes.  Version 9.7 leverages VMware vSphere’s server virtualization capabilities and the Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) functionality to deliver powerful Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions.  VMware vCloud Director 9.7 features an HTML 5 Tenant and Administration Portal, user interface extensibility, orchestration services, Python SDK and CLI, Multi-Site View, SR-IOV (Single-Root Input/output Virtualization), FIPS Mode and standalone VMRC.
  • Geoblocking in SkyATP: Juniper’s Advanced Threat Protection Suite.  E.V.E. 3.0 incorporates a new geoblocking security feature, baked into Juniper SRX firewalls and SkyATP , that has the capacity to block IP addresses from a select group of countries, all regarded as known security risks: China, India, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine.  SkyATP blocks places and specific locales, rather than individual IP addresses, and users may opt out of this protection. As part of the upgrade, all firewalls have been upgraded to new Juniper SRX technology.
  • VMware NSX. Built into E.V.E. 3.0 is a new VMware NSX upgrade that extends to Infinitely Virtual’s support of SSL VPN.  Effective with this release, SSL VPN is included with any plan with self-managed firewalls.  With SSL VPN-Plus, as it’s now known, remote users can connect securely to private networks behind a NSX Edge gateway.  Remote users can access servers and applications in the private networks.

In combination, E.V.E. 3.0’s additional capabilities significantly bolster security, uptime, data protection, NetApp code – in sum, Infinitely Virtual’s entire environment.

“We’re excited to benefit from AMD’s strategy for Rome, with an architecture that provides a powerful alternative to the status quo in the data center,” said Adam Stern, Founder and CEO, Infinitely Virtual.  “With Oracle and Amazon both launching EPYC-based cloud implementations, AMD EPYC CPUs have real momentum in the marketplace.

“Our latest round of upgrades represents our continuous investment in proven new technologies to ensure that customers benefit from the most advanced hosting environment in the industry,” Stern said.  “As we have been doing for nearly 15 years, customers don’t pay more – they simply get a better system, whether in terms of resources or software or both.”

As the latest enhancements demonstrate, E.V.E. continues to evolve as new technologies and products are released.  “We select best-in-class solutions for each component in the environment, implementing data center, networking and VMware best practices at every level,” Stern said.  “In this, its third iteration, E.V.E. remains a conceptual model of our state-of-the-art virtualization infrastructure.”

E.V.E. was designed with several goals in mind:

  • 100 percent customer uptime
  • Near-physical server performance
  • Absolute data protection
  • Support for high value custom services
  • Industry cost leadership
  • Industry environmental leadership

E.V.E. consists of three major layers, each made up of four sub-layers.  Each layer and sub-layer represents a basic building block of the environment.  The major layers, from the bottom up, include the Physical Layer, the Network, Server and Storage Layer and the Virtualization Layer.
